Sexual difference

The difference between male and female is not always very clear. With juveniles the difference is almost not visible. Only a trained eye and an expert can sex juveniles, and then they are mistaken sometimes.
These are a few differences that can be spotted immediately, but this is not the case for al turtles.
  • Elongated front claws by males
  • Thicker tale of the male. Its cloaca is further away from the marginal rim while the females is near the carapace.
  • The plastron is concave and more indented
  • The anal plates of the plastron may differ in size and shape
  • With some species, females are much larger than males
